Conquest International Enters US Market
Wednesday, 27 January 2010 08:21

Conquest International, the UK-based company that designs and builds high performance motorcycles specifically for wheelchair users, has reached an agreement with MobilityWorks, one of America’s largest providers of adapted vehicles for individuals with disabilities. This recently signed agreement will allow MobilityWorks to exclusively manufacture and distribute Conquest International’s 1200cc, BMW-powered vehicle in the US through its 55-strong dealer network.

Designed for those with disabilities from the waist down, the distinctive Conquest 1200 – which will be called simply ‘The Conquest’ in America is the World’s first high performance motorcycle that can be driven from a wheelchair. Already in production in the UK, the alliance with US mobility giant MobilityWorks will allow Conquest International instant and unrivalled exposure to this huge market.

Conquest International is delighted to have reached agreement with MobilityWorks for the manufacture and distribution of The Conquest in the United States,” said Conquest International’s Chairman, Charles Cunningham. “MobilityWorks is a leader in the US market and we look forward to working alongside them and introducing our unique product to a whole new audience. The Conquest is a high performance vehicle that truly enhances the lives of its customers, providing them with a previously unattainable level of independence and excitement.”

Conquest International is currently building 45 demonstrator models at its factory in Manchester. These initial US specification models are being shipped to America in batches from mid-December 2009 through to March 2010. A further twelve bikes will be built under license by MobilityWorks in order to furnish its newly formed sister company, Conquest International, with 57 demonstration vehicles for its nationwide sales network. Conquest International’s UK operation will then concentrate on production for the UK and the rest of the world, licensing the manufacture of its US sales to Conquest International.

"We are very excited about what The Conquest means to our customers,” said Bill Koeblitz, President of MobilityWorks. “For the first time ever in the US, people with disabilities will have the option of driving a motorcycle from their wheelchair. This new level of freedom is unsurpassed, and allows our customers to live their passions, and to live without boundaries.”

Conquest International’s auspicious partnership with MobilityWorks has resulted in the aforementioned formation of Mobility Conquest, and its President, Mark Roberts, is confident that The Conquest’s introduction to the US market will be a success: “We expect that wheelchair athletes who play basketball, rugby, tennis and other sports will be excited about this product. In addition, veterans from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have also expressed a great amount of interest in The Conquest. And, just like with able-bodied bikers, many 50-year-old-plus individuals are looking for a fun ride on the weekend. We will coordinate ‘track days’ for those who are interested in trying out the motorcycle and, as the Conquest grows in popularity, we will be organising rallies for the riders. In fact, our new website (www.mobilityconquest.com) will be a social network for riders to get together, attend events, and talk about their experiences."
